    Decklids, whats the difference?

I am searching a decklid for my 70S, checked Getty (make gf/carbon stuff) and they list a lid that fit 68-88 911.. I read there is a difference with the license lighs, right?

Have problem finding a 68-73 lid but there's plenty of the 74-80 lids, will the later lid fit the catch?

I can always modify a 74-80 lid with some sort of license lights until I find a nice correct lid (... and paint the car tangerine)

Anyone have pix illustrating the difference?

    thanks in advance.

    Teveo,
Any rear decklid from '65-89 will fit your car. The '65 to early '68 decklids had a bar in the middle in the middle of the grille area and a different grille so you don't want that for your '70. However, any later deck lid from late '68 to '89 will work fine. Starting in 1974 with the impact rear bumper and reflector the rear deck lids no longer had the cut outs for license plate lights...but the indentations are there so if you really want these lights you could easily cut out the indentations and install them. Possibly a bigger issue in using a '74-89 decklid on your car is the lack of holes for the PORSCHE and 911 deco lettering. Starting in '74 the decklids either had plastic stick-on lettering or no lettering at all. Again, you could drill these holes needed for your old style PORSCHE and 911 lettering but you would probably need to make a template from a good decklid to get the holes in the right place. So, in summary, any decklid from '68-89 will fit and work fine but you'll have to figure out whether you want to go to the trouble of making the holes for the license plate lights and the PORSCHE lettering that is correct for you '70 911.

Thanks Richard, I think I can make those mods to a post 73 lid! Its only the 911S badge I think, dont think it has P O R S C H E lettering on the lid. (?)

Teveo, your car should have the PORSCHE lettering as well as the 911 badge. There is a template on the PCN forum.
