    Paul Newman's 73S

Years ago, 10 or more, Paul Newman's silver 73 S coupe was for sale, I think somewhere in the east. Any one know what happened to that car? Is it owned by somebody in the registry? Thanks.

    Whoa
That just brought back a flood of great memories. In 1973 Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward filmed the movie "The Drowning Pool" in and around Lafayette, La. I was working full time in a little neighborhood 7-11 type grocery store and going to the local university part time. At the time I had a Sand Beige 68 912, that I drove until 1981 when I bought my first new 911. One Sunday evening he drove up in that silver 73S with his wife. I'll never forget he had to buy some feminine hygiene products. This is something that just is ingrained in my memory. He came in several more times during his stay in Lafayette. He was staying in a local motel about 5 blocks away. On more than one occasion I would pass by and stop and look closely at his car. It was the first year for the new black alloys---I had never seen them before. I was dreaming and thinking that I was never going to be able to have a car like this . I'm sure somewhere on that car is a little petrified remnant of my drool. There was a local dirt track and one night he took that beautiful S and rolled it. He ended up breaking his wrist or forearm if I recall. A local tow company owner who used to come by the store told me they shipped the car back to Connecticut to be repaired.
Also in the cast was Anthony Francisco and the great character actor Richard Jaeckel . Now he used to wash his clothes at the washeteria next door. He was not driving a Porsche either.
Funny , I was finally able to get a silver 72S , 33 years later. I bet PL Newman would approve.

How old was Melanie Griffith? Wowsa! (jail bait)

    I forgot these lines...

Schuyler Devereaux: It's not nice to look up lady's dresses.
Lew Harper: Everyone's got to look somewhere.

    (I know I was!)

So let me get this straight... PLN actually bought the feminine hygiene products himself? Sure sign of a REAL man... right up there with rolling a 911 on a dirt track.

We need to find that car, those of us with silver '73esses need to know!!
Obviously, a rollover history is a black mark, but if done by PLN himself?
    That's a damn selling point!

Haven't seen Drowning Pool... next stop on the internets will be to my Netflix queue.

Who knew he rolled the thing! I guess it still has some small value. I remember it being for sale in Hemmings and Panorama also. $16K back then was a lot of money for those cars...

That would be a great car to have. Paul Newman is WAY cooler than Steve McQueen!

+1 Certainly a better actor and a more successful race car driver. Then there's the $250 million he donated to various charities worldwide.
