eBay item # 320323666351
VIN on both body & tag shows 300445, but what about the dash # (67S)?

Promoted the seller's "agent" to post the additional pics. What we probably have here on this horribly rusty hulk is a 911S from the pillars back and an early '66 from them forward.

That was my thinking also. However, 300445 is about Feb 1965 production. It would be interesting to see where it was spliced.

The number on the dash should be the VIN of the dearly departed 67 911S, correct? I wonder what the paint tag would tell us. Please ask for that info also.

Dave,
I hope I can add to the conversation on what this auto could be a 1965 911 or an early 911S.
It's aluminum ID plate looks to be a correct item - but it is on the front latch panel. #445 would have been next to the stamped body number in the trunk- behind the gas tank. At the time of #445 (January/Feb 1965) that front latch emboss panel would be symmetrical to both sides of the latch - not flat where this ID tag is mounted.
Trunk numbers are stamped in the right location and presentation for a 1965 car.
The front shock towers were adjustable from 302695, the #445 car would be non adjustable.
That lower dash number are in the right location and presentation to indicate a December 1966 made 67 911S car.
Could it be an "S" car?
Some additional questions could be answered by photos:
A photo of the gauges could show either a 911S or regular 911 tach. Rear banana arms might have the pins for that rear sway bar (that 67S bar is in the cab laying on the tunnel). Vented brake rotors would indicate an "S" car. Door paint code would say 64/65 paint code or 66/67.
Either way it could be very early 65 car or it is a 67S, hmmm.
It now is a real big rusty project complicated by a mixed identity.
Not for the faint of heart.

That is quite an enigma.
As you correctly say, Bob, the car has an early VIN but adjustable strut tops. It's not like you can just add the adjuster bolts, the inner fender is a different shape. It looks like somebody went to the trouble of clipping the nose by using a 67S body, then putting on a 65 smugglers box/steering shaft panel. But then if you look closely the trunk latch panel is "late," a 65 would have bumps on both sides and the aluminum VIN plate would be up by the other VIN.
So it's a sandwich, 67S, then 65, then 67S again? Note the Lobro vs. Nadella axles and the orange shocks in the rear, also the stickers on the engine lid panel wouldn't have been there on the early car. Note the wide "S" trim on the rear bumper also.

Grady Clay taught me a cool little trick the other day...place a mirror under where the chasis number is stamped on the body and see if the indention matchs what is on the top. Possibly an S that didn't have a title and registered with a 65 vin plate and title could be a decent score...I have an 67 S case and transmission hmmmm
