Do you have to take the door off to replace the antenna on a 73 911E
Seems like a bigger project than I anticipated.
Thanks

Short of removing the fender. Doors arn't that hard. Just have plenty of blankets around.

Chris-
It's almost impossible to explain this, but if you snake a piece of stiff wire through the gap with the door open, you can "fish" the antenna and base out. You may need to remove the under fender hardware before it will fit through. I'd tape up all the panels and edges nearby with 2" masking tape. I've never removed the door to do it.
Steve
I agree with Steve. Removing the door can always leave you with some surprises when re-installing it. This is a frustrating job, so be patient. Take your time and do the tape masking. Take the hardware off the the antenna top that meets the fender. Inside the door jamb there is a small bracket in the middle of the antenna body. Unscrew the bolt and the antenna will become loose. Once loose, you cannot pull it up through the hole in the fender, but must pull the body up to release it from the bottom bracket. Once the body is off of the bottom bracket, you should be able to get it out by sliding it throught the door jamb. Now the fun begins.
First screw the cable on. I used a very long set of needle nose pliers. Now use those same pliers to lift the antenna body into the bottom bracket. The worst is now over. You are probably frustrated by now. If you are not, you are super human. Now that the body is in the bracket, do not tighten it until you know the height is correct going through the fender hole. Once it is, tighten it up, put on the fender hardware and you are good to go. Make sure you are using the oem replacement so you never have to do this again.
Good luck. If you run into a problem, please post it and I will help you out.

The doors are easy to remove and put back on. Drive the hinge pins out, remove the door stop first, and just pull it away. If you do it by yourself make sure you have plenty of blankets available to put it on. No problems with gaps since your not moving the hinges. Makes the antennae installation much easier.
