    Red plastic screwdrivers

I found what I think are good substitutes for the original red plastic screwdrivers in the early 911 tool kits and they are less than $20 for two. They obviously won't qualify for a concourse tool kit, but are actually usable.
They are available in the serious tool aisle of any Home Depot and come in a variety of sizes. All it takes is some minor modifications. The screwdrivers are called Husky Pro and have a thick black rubber cover over the plasic handle. I cut off the rubber with an exacto knife. This may scar the red plastc slightly, but should be considered instant patina. The now exposed plastic handle has a small knob at the end, which I then cut off with my trusty Dremel. If you don't have a Dremel, you really should get one for Christmas.
