Weber 40 IDA ; made in Italy or not...

    Hi,
I found a pair of Weber 40 IDA 3C with a date (ink stamp) 12-83. Compare to my other pair, there is no "Made in Italy" on the side of the body. So is there any significant difference, in term of quality or performance, between both Carbs ?

    Thanks
    JD

They are inferior and likely from PMO based on the dating. They were doing the kits that everyone used on their MFI cars when they couldn't tune them properly. There was a lot of ignorance from that era that I was part of too

Eurometrix will only warranty the Italian made Webers (if they need work).

"Only OEM Weber carburetors can be successfully rebuilt under warranty. Carburetors must have 'Made in Italy' stamped into float bowl."

Back then nobody understood fuel injection. Now nobody understands a carburetor.

Those were the latest, American-made (Carter) Webers that suffered QC issues. Further, the casting materials were distinctly inferior to the Italian-made versions.

One uses them as long as they are not worn out, but these are usually not worth rebuilding unless there are no other options.
