Thread: WTB: Front fender oil cooler OEM for 73

  1. #11

    yep

Yes the cooler shown above is the jail bar, loop cooler or trombone cooler. The later sc cooler lines go up higher and then make a 90deg turn back so that both the cooler and the hard lines don't require any rubber hose fittings which are no longer available. i will have 2 of the fittings that get silver soldiered on to the SC cooler if you want to by them, i had a mchine shop make them. Thanks Ron

    RS cooler "old thread" bump

Is there a source for the fittings to silver solder to make a later trombone into an RS clone cooler? I would like to do this, as well as convert a later trombone into a hybrid cooler to be used in my 914-6 with a hot 2.4 S engine.
    Thanks in advance.

Thanks Bert. I see it on their website for $439. I think I am able to source the metric fittings locally, and am learning about silver soldering.
BTW, are you pleased with the cooler? Work to your expectations?

Porsche sells the trombone cooler and the flexible lines for the S/RS. Not cheap. I have this on my car and it is all very high quality and looks perfect.

If you are trying to modify the later trombone which has longer 90 degree bends and hooks up directly to the oil lines, then you need M30x1.5 male fittings to solder to the later trombone after cutting it down. A hydraulic hose place in your area may have them. It's a common size, you just need a sweat connector.

My 72 S is in storage. Can someone please measure, the distance from the top of the trombone to the top of the fittings?
    Thanks.
