It is a European dealership sign that was available in the Sixties and Seventies (until replaced with a different design in the mid to late Seventies). They exist double sided or single sided.

I purchased this nos sign last year in Italy. It is made of thick plastic in high relief (3D), the colors were applied by hand inside the sign by a specialized firm outside of Bologna (still exists today). They were commissioned by the Porsche factory for their distributors.

Contrary to signs available in America, these did not have a smooth flat surface but the porsche letters and the borders were made in relief:









They are quite rare as the plastic becomes extremely brittle over time and breaks easily. Today you may find either the plastic shield (missing the lighting system), saved by the dealer when he replaced it with the more recent sign, or a nos stock sign meant as a replacement but never used (complete).

Here is the Siffert garage (1970/1971) in Fribourg were you can barely see the sign on the upper left part of the roof (with the alfa romeo sign):



The sign I have is quite fragile but since it was never used, it still maintains its original colors (not faded by the sun).

Reproductions of these signs could be another great project for Carl!

The only item of interest I have is a rally badge from the 1966 Germany Rally. The Rally was won by a '66 911 and the team was Günther Klass/Rolf Wuetherich. Wuetherich was the passenger in the fatal James Dean accident. I have this mounted on my '66 in a place where someone in the past put two holes in the engine lid.

PS. if anyone has a spare '66 manual, I'd be interested. Great thread btw.

Weren't these silver cars gifts to dealers, like when a dealer sold so many cars in a year?

Very nice Richard. The ones made by Hoffman were most likely made to reward successful dealers, it would make perfect sense. They are I believe equally rare as the free standing ones.

The ones "free" standing are 14 inches in length and quite bulky. They have writing on one of the doors mentioning the championship and sometimes the year, and have Ferry Porsche's signature. They were usually handed out by Von Hanstein or Ferry Porsche himself.

Both types are very nice and quite collectables!

Andrea, wonderful brochures, extremely rare and difficult to find. Very large format so often folded or damaged.

I've never seen the second one (the one below, is it an envelope?). Could you post some images? I've checked on the Ruediger Kohl site and it's not recorded!

How about this order form for the book "liebe zu ihm"? is it rare?
