    Correct steering wheel for a 1967 911S?

Which is the correct steering wheel for a 1967 911S? I know they were leather covered, both with the puck center or with butterfly, but I have read about 400 mm and 420mm steering wheels. I'm confused. Which one is the correct size for a 1967 911S?

Was the wood wheel an option?

Did Porsche or the dealers offered optional wheels like Nardis and the like?

    Thanks,
    Victor

    For the 67S:

The correct wheel is the 420 mm wheel.

Leather covered was stock, and the wood wheel was a no cost option.

The horn push was the butterfly, not the hockey puck.

Good question on the dealer options, the wood Nardi was a very common swap at Chick Iverson Porsche in Newport Beach, CA.

    Merry Christmas!

Should the no cost option wood wheel show up on the COA?

If it should, are there cases when it hasn't shown up on a COA even though clearly known to be a wood no-cost option original?

I have a wood wheel with a butterfly that the previous owner was convinced was original for the car...

    Thanks.

    Eric:

Thanks a lot for your response. Two questions come to mind:

    1. When you say 420 mm is that measured on the outside rim of the wheel, in other words, the widest diameter?

    2. When the cars had the wood option, was that a 420mm wheel also, or what was the regular measure?

Merry Christmas and my best wishes for the new year,
    Victor

    Jim,

I have attached a couple of shots of the 420 mm wood-rimmed wheel which was available on the early cars. Yes, 420 millimeters is the OD, (outside diameter), which translates to approx. 16-1/2 inches. Photo #1 & Photo #2. You can use either a butterfly or a puck hornbutton with this wheel.

For size reference purposes only, I overlaid a 380 mm Nardi wheel (which measures approx. 14 -3/4" outside diameter) to give you an idea of the size difference. Photo #3

    Hope this helps you decide

Thanks John. That was helpful. I have the 420mm wood with the butterfly. Not as nice as yours (yet) but it looks complete.

I had another friend tell me that it should be on my COA (it isn't) if it was a no cost option replacement for the leather wheel that was standard. I guess I'm still questioning if it should appear on the COA. Even so, I've figured out that the COAs can be in error so perhaps it doesn't really matter.

    thanks again.
