    Quick Battery Question

I know there's been a lot of discussion here about batteries, but things change. It's time to replace the battery in my '67. I've always used Optimas in my 356's and I really like them - they last forever, they hold their charge and they don't leak. Is the Optima D51 Yellow Top a good choice for mounting up front in the original spot?

What are the advantages of mounting an Odyssey PC680 or somesuch in the smuggler's box?

    Cheers,

I use the Optima in my 356s also, great batteries. I don't have the measurements, but if there is a height issue the Optima can be mounted on its side, unlike conventional batteries.

Its a racers trick, the boxed battery recess, blocks cooling air to the brakes, relocate the battery and remove the boxes.

    Odyssey

    John,

I have heard bad problems with Odyssey batteries not holding charge very well. Only have heard good things from Optima owners (you included).

One battery is not statistically valid BUT

I have LOVED my Odyssey batteries and had no problems with them. I have had one as a spare I use for projects for two years, in and out of cars, and it works great. Frankly, I can't imagine them no holding a charge but I can't prove that they don't. Frankly, I suspect competitors may be spreading such rumors. They are spiral wound, very powerful (high amp-hours and high cranking current) and totally sealed.

No, you need the red top.

No boxes on a SWB Rob

I believe the yellow tops are deep cycle.

DVVK (a real first name in the sig line would be a nice courtesy) is absolutely correct. You do want the Optima Red Top.

    Optima storage charge?

Can you, should you, charge these batteries over the winter with say a Battery Minder maintenance charger like you would a traditional battery?

    Thanks
