    Installing Wheel Arch Trim

I just received a set of wheel arch trim that I intend to mount on my '67.

I've always heard that the trim was available as an option starting in '69 or somesuch, but I'm told this trim came off of a '67 (and the source that told me is 100% reliable).

Anyway, I'm not sure how they were mounted. I suspect screws were used as the holes in the trim pieces are recessed. But rivets could have also been used. Does anyone know?

    Cheers,

John - they were attached with rivets - part number 999.190.101.30.

I can't remember if there was anything special about them but they're still listed by Stoddard's for $0.26 ea :

I had always thought that they were introduced as an option for the '69 models.

    John,
My 71E originally came with the wheel arch trim, but by the time I bought it they were gone. However the remnants of pop rivets were still there. Aluminum pop rivets, I Think. I happened to have a pop rivet gun and assorted pop rivets. The standard aluminum 1/8" pop rivet appears to be a perfect fit. Anybody know what Stoddard is selling?

My original paint 73 still has the factory installed wheel arch trim, and what Al says is correct. I removed one piece to inspect the metal behind it, and I found that a 1/8" aluminum rivet from the hardware store matched the original rivets.

    wheel arch

I believe in doing whatever you want to your car, its yours, go to it. However I believe you will find that the trim needs to be combined with the wide, 3 to 4 inch rocker trim to make it look correct. The wide rocker trim and wheel arch trim started with the long wheelbase cars. But it is easy to put the arch trim and wide rocker trim on SWB cars and it looks like it belongs. I put both on my 1967S back in 1970 and never looked back.

    Mike...

After trial mounting the trim I think you're correct. Without the wide rocker trim the wheel arch trim doesn't end in a place that makes sense. Now I'm a little torn. I really like the look of the wheel arch trim, but the rocker trim is a major distinction between the SWB and the LWB. And I like respecting the essence of the original look of my cars. I have '67S rocker trim on there right now that took me forever to find, and I prefer to keep it.

The originality is so confining. I thought I had gotten over it with my '60 Super 90 Roadster were every part was original (original original or NOS), a project that took 8 years to complete.

    Cheers,
    JohnA

P.S. I completely trust the person who advised me that the set of trim I had came off of a '67. But I suspect the trim had been added at a later date. And I'll bet the later rocker trim was also on there,

I found this link to work better. It's line item #7. Thanks for pointing out the part number!

    Hi,

The actual arch profile differs from SWB to LWB, the LWB cars have a flat outer edge on which these trims fit up to. I have a few sets of these trims in the work shop and will try offering them up to a 67 car today.

just curious: How do you mount these on a 67S ? They dont had wide rocker panels as 68 911S and 68 911L did feature.
