    71E COA - Accurate? Complete?

I received the COA for my 71E. I like having it, as it verifies that I have the matching numbers engine and tranny, lists the paint code/interior, etc.
However there are a couple of items that I question.

    1. It's apparent that my car has the "S" trim, including the wheel arch trim, but the COA does not list this as optional equipment.

    2. Optional "4 speakers" are listed. Can anyone verify that this was an factory option? 2 door speakers and two deck speakers? Or was this a dealer installed option? Would that be on the COA?

    3. Even though the "4 speaker" option is listed, the radio is not. Blaupunkt Franfurt? Becker Europa? Did Porsche offer a stereo system in 1971? Europa II or....?

    4. My car has Hella 169 fogs...not listed on the COA. Factory or dealer installed?

I have contacted the COA folks at Porsche to see if they can provide more info, but perhaps you guys can chime in with your thoughts.

    71E COA - Accurate? Complete?

Hi Al, in regards to your questions; this speaker question has come up before, at least according to the parts books through 73 there was ONLY the dash speaker shown. Now you and I know there are always exceptions!! The dealers could have done most anything, but it wouldn't be on the COA. As to the 'S' trim, wasn't that standard with an 'E' so it wouldn't have been shown on the COA. The wheel arch trim is another matter, that was definitely an option and should have been shown. Same with the fog lights. I'm also a member of the 356 registry, and I seem to recall a newsletter article about the COA process, and part of the problem was the people in Atlanta trying to interpret the German phrases that are supplied by the factory, and this is what contributes to a lot of incorrect COA's.

I think there was a recent thread here on the esses where someone posted a list of every option number back to the 65's

    Ed,
Thanks for the reply. I didn't think of the language barrier. I have gone back to the COA folks and hopefully they will be able to give the German translation another go. I'm in the middle of the resto of my 71...I'm not a purist, but I'm very interested in the original details. At least that way i'll know what I'm adhering to or varying from.

PS: Speaking of adhering to or varying from..... I installed (re-installed?) the wheel arch trim tonight. Even though this car originally came with this option, i wasn't sure i'd like it. Wow...I like it.

My '72 had a number of shiny bits (& correct) not listed on the COA.

Many were optioned with speakers and antenna, no radio. Very pricy option at the time.

Maybe they had the dealer install an in-dash AM/FM Motorola (common) and did a Craig or Pioneer 8 Track Quadrophonic.

Mine does have a Clarion 8-track Stereo installed in it now. I suppose that could have been a dealer installed unit. That would explain the "4 speakers listed, but no radio.

    C.O.A. = Certificate of "APPROXIMATION"

I ran into the same issues. No mention of the gas heater, fog lamps or Fuchs rims. I can see where the rims and fogs might have been a dealer installed item, but the gas heater???

    71E COA - Accurate? Complete?

Sacto, weren't all those items standard on a 67 S and wouldn't be listed on the option page.

Here is the Clarion, 8-track Stereo in my 71E. It's a beauty. Actually it's just a bit worn and dirty and looks more so due to the flash. Appears to be in good shape. Could this have been a dealer install? I googled around and this model is period correct. I'll have to see if I can dig up a couple of 8-track tapes....

    regards,
