No, this is the first "1965" or "1966" engine with an engine case having a 1967 casting date. If the engine was a factory repair it would have a KD prefix on the engine #.

Gianni, I am not certain that I understand your question. The photo you took of the casting date shows, as you said, that the case half was cast in August 1967 at the metal foundry. Then it was shipped to Porsche for machining. When it was fully machined, then it could be used by the engine shop to build an engine for a new car, or it could go to the spare parts department to be sold by a dealer to repair an engine. I have a database that includes more information than is in the first two posts in this thread. I can relate the casting dates to engine serial #'s , and from engines to car VIN's , and from VIN's to dates of production. So I can tell that an engine case with August 1967 casting dates would have been in cars built in December 1967. Or the case could have been sold for repair purposes at about the same time. This means that sometime in late 1967 or early 1968 is the most likely time period that your engine had the case halves replaced. I believe that if the factory had made the repair then the engine serial # would have a KD prefix showing that it had been repaired. So I believe it is more likely that a dealer would have done the repair.

Hello Dave, so the car was bought in 1966 by a doctor from Trieste, who then sold it again in the summer of 1967 because the car always had problems with the engine, from Trieste the car then came to southern Italy where the engine was repaired because it had engine block damage would have. At that time it was repaired in Potenza by a Volkswagen mechanic who also had the original Porsche parts and numbers. In the 80s the car was painted orange and S Style made of it ... until 1990 an engineer from Asti bought it and restored it to its original condition.
I saw that an E is stamped on the engine block halves, which will probably mean a spare part. Now the case is cleared up and I am satisfied. Thank you for your help. Greetings from Italy
