I'm really sorry but I'm at home and I don't have other car pictures with me, I've left my camera in the office.
On Monday I will post engine bay and car pictures plus the chassis nr.
I'm a member of this community since years, but I have never posted, only read and learnt a lot. It's at least 3 years that I'm looking for an unmolested 2.0S, and this one is fabolous, apart this grind on the engine.

You are really an incredible source of knowledge and I would like to thank you all for what you do. Thanks a lot for your kind help.

I suggest that you read this thread from the start to understand the build #'s, and maybe print out the database in the first two posts. The build # is linear with respect to serial #'s, so if you have a build # that does not fit with the serial, then the serial has been tampered with. The serial must have the stars. Whatever you find, take photos; including serial #'s, VIN and paint code.

Thanks Dave, read a lot of this thread, I've much clearer ideas now.
I've called Porsche Omologation, gave them VIN and engine serial, it's matching.
No way to check build # and engine type during the exhibition, I will before picking up the car: this will be the revealing moment... and I will decide how to proceed discussing with current owner.
Anyway what I have is VIN 119301186 engine 6391661 and paint code 97-6803-G (also matching) see picturesName: paint code.jpg

    Dave,

Perhaps this has been noted before but you have two engines with the same Engine number 961796 but different build numbers. Is this a typo, is it verified? There may be another case of this. Thanks.

Thanks Allen, now corrected. It was an error by the person submitting I think. I get lots of those.
So, you may have a true case?? Very interested.

    Hi Dave,

I have a Kardex for a car close to this one with the same engine number shown: 961782. However, I've not seen the actual photo or otherwise engine number on that one.

I've updated the thread, and now we have essentially 17 engines in series, so I have high confidence in these #'s:
    961782 8462
    961796 8476
    961798 8478
