i am pretty sure it was for the 70 my. i know that condenser set up in the earlier left front: well built, stone shield with louvers, and fairly dense core (for the times) . Trouble is it did not get enough air flow there. The euros thought that we would be cruising at 60-70 mph plus using a/c , when we need it most is at crawler speeds. Hence the change over in 70 to the center condenser with blow thru fan.

just remembered the name of the pasadena based a/c co: Maier (or similar) Air. Guy named Bud fabricated the system. It also used that left front fender condenser

Interesting. Hard to tell if spoiler is clay or glass-fibre still unfinished so rough? Evidence of hold-down to secure lid not production latch. The rest of rear appears to be metal ( not glassfibre) so like very late M471 RS without S rubber on the overriders and bumper ends. Looks to be black tape on metal bumper end pieces and black overrider finish like some 73 cars got, rather than the chrome eventually used on (some) RS? But still got silver-edged lights. Evidence of flared rear arch but from these particular photos can’t see if has the “Carrera” lip.

Does anyone know how to decode the internal number on tape affixed to rear screen is it “E40 EVPF” ? Prefix E but last letter looks to be F so is it development evaluation prototype asset 40 recorded for financial year 72 but perhaps last letter pertaining to the coming F series? Wasn’t the type road wheel in background first available on some model 73. Appear to be Pirelli cn36 tyre from the small section of tread visible? Has still got 2.4 not 2.7 badge. No trim fitted on tail pipe.

Steve that car is E40 a factory owned 2.5ST 911 230 0769 the was used by Zasada in 1972 rallies and wrecked in the Rally of Poland on 13 - 16 July before being taken back to the factory and re- emerging as RS 911 360 0001 and being used by Zasada from the 28th of September 1972 until early 1973
My understanding is that after it was reborn as RS 0001, still looking almost the same as it did as the ST, but before it went back to Zasada in late September, it spent some time in the factory Versuch area being used in the RS development program. My understanding is that these photos were taken in September 1972 (but could have been late August) and I suspect that they are clay modeled on top of the stock rear lid (with tie downs) that E 40 had both before and after its transformation into RS0001

I think the Museum is mistaken in saying that photo taken was "a year" before the tail was seen on the RS (as they often are on details these days)
The RS, with the tail was debuted in Paris in October 1972 (with the tail). While wind tunnel testing of a "tail" for 911's was going on from April 1970, and in particular from May 1972 on E14, (and was ongoing through various iterations including the long-tail RSR's into the middle of 1973,) the actual design shown on E40 was not decided to my knowledge until after E42 did testing after it participated in the 1972 Osterreichring at the end of June 1972. Given it was being used by Zasada until the crash in Poland, and then had to be rebuilt as 001, I am fairly confident in the time of August / September for this photo (despite paperwork from Barth, written in 1974, saying that the car had the accident on September 18 1972. I actually think that, if that day is in factory records, it may have been the day that the ST vin was "retired" ie shown as destroyed and the RS0001 vin became active in Porsches' records)

At that time they were still testing between different versions shown below. So I find it unbelievable that the museum suggests that this picture of E40 was taken a year before October 1972 and before E40m was actually built
