Hi John
I went to look at your posting and it raised a question in my mind. My understanding is that the 69S PP was not copper faced. The earlier 67
S-68S. pp had the copper facing. The 69S pp is a one year only part and had a sintered cast iron facing. The friction wear surface almost appears to be aluminum but is not. It is a very thin coating. I have a few of each (67 & 69) and they look distinctly different. The thickness of the aluminum element is also different. It is thicker on a 69S and as a result, it uses a very hard to find, thinner friction disc. I did have a file were I tracked the part #s but lost it in a hard drive crash. If that part number is for a 69S, I apoligize for asking the question. If you need images or dimension to validate your part, I would be happy to assist.

I think I have a good used disc. If you want me to look into it I can-do you have a part #?

Thanks Tom for the correction....I had it backwards.....
Tom...I know the part number I listed is the correct one for the 69S PP.....I just thought the copper one was on the 69S.....so really from your info the copper one was on the 67-68S PP....you mentioned the aluminum part is thicker....do you have the measurements....I would like to make sure I am listing this thing correctly....sorry for the confusion and thanks very much for your help....Regards...John
Tom....I found this picture on Armando's 914-6 GT site....it shows the two types of aluminum PPs but doesn't note which is which.....

Hi John
The original S pressure plate had the copper face for heat dissapation. It was used in 67 & 68. It was found that the copper face did not hold up (under EXTREME conditions the copper seems to almost melt and deform) and they changed to the sintered iron face. The pressure plate you have has slightly less potential longevity compared to the 69 version, but is much easier to find a disc for. I believe it uses the same dimension disc as a normal iron pressure plate of the era. Either is very desirable (less rotating mass) and lets the little buggers rev more quickly.
I borrowed images to post here. I will try to take an image of the two disks side by side that shows the difference in thickness. You can see the difference in the thickness of the actual plates if you look carefully at these images. The copper faced plate is definitely thinner.

Thanks Tom...yes those are the pics I was looking at...and you're right you can see the difference in the thickness on the side of the plate....Thanks very much for your help!!!
