Help to establish a fair price? 67S

I been searching for a car to enter in classic FIA rallies.

This cars been discussed here, and its the 3d (4th?) time this car is on ebay.
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=270334442975

Background; I already have a dedicated engine, rallyseats, rollbar etc, just need a car with the "right numbers" and a fair to good body (we have a metal/mech/paint shop on our premises so work is cheap or traded for rent.. ).

Now, here's the $18000 question (?) , whats a fair price in todays market?

    Thanks

Its back again, suppose euro bidder backed out. (last few lines about shipping..)

I would buy it anytime around $20k, sell of the seats and anything people would want before shipping it back home for the "rally treatment".

Total cost $14-16k after the most sought after "valuables" was sold would be great to me. Have seen rundown 65-66's trade for $10-12k lately.

I spoke to this seller about this car a couple of times. I just couldn't seperate fact from fiction with this guy. Or he plain just didn't know...Even the rust issue was cloudy. I passed on the car and I wouldn't give it any consideration without an in person inspection with an available lift.

For your purposes, it may be the right car for you, but I'd still do my due diligence, especially with the rust issue.

A few things you might want to check:

    1. If you need a car built in 66 or early check carefully, I doubt
    307603S was built in 66.
    2. IDA Webers, by that stage they had changed over to IDS, engines
960502+ had IDS. 307603S ought to have an engine number around
961500, certainly not 1000 numbers earlier.
    3. The decklid appears to be a respray.

    67s ?

According to The Porsche Book list of engine/chassis numbers, the chassis number is correct for a 1966S, however the engine number is from a regular
    911.
S engine numbers should start with 96, and engine type was 901/02 ,
not 901/05, which was the regular 911 engine type.

This book also says the weber carburettors on the 66S were identical to those introduced on the regular 911 in Feb 1966.

That's correct, the best I can determine without a COA would be February 1967.
