    Flat to 2000

Is it just how 2.4S's are? I've been tweaking MFI pump around for ages: control rack and idle adjust, lean to rich, trying to get rapid response to the throttle when going from the get-go. It's just flat until say 1,500 rpm from 2,000 Afetr that the magic happens - its fairground stuff all the way to 7,000 +. Hold on to your hats!

Rev up and slap the clutch in tends to result in shock and awe, especiaqlly in town, and can't be great for the clutch ayhoo.

WHat's the consensus, is it just how the torque curve is?

I'd have to drive it to be sure, but they are pretty flat that low. About as inspiring as a 1.6L early '90s Miata actually!

Have you taken your injectors to have tested for cracking pressure and spray pattern? I suspect a poor spray pattern could be a problem and is probably more noticed at the lower rpm. I know the whole cam thing with Ss is not ideal at lower rpm, but I would venture to say that a brand new S did not drive the way you mentioned. Never have driven an S, just thought I would put my $0.02 in.

I just recently tested mine and they were not atomizing the fuel like they are suppose to. I had them ultrasonically cleaned at the same time and they were not much better. I am living with them until I can cough up the $1000 it takes to buy new ones. I was doing a complete TB removal and re-calibration at the time, so it was not much effort to take the injectors out. At least they will be easy to remove the next time.

Since I have two 2.4S's I can tell you that doesn't sound right, granted they don't pull great down low, but the 'on cam' effect starts at 4500 RPM, not 2000. There are a hundred possibilities that could cause this, but I would suggest you check the two most common faults I've found over the years; camshaft timing incorrect (once found E cams timed as S) and the length of the pump control rod. You've got to do this in an orderly fashion or you will just dig yourself a large hole. Suggest you get the "Check Measure Adjust " book on setting up MFI.

Thanks for your views. I actually had the injectors out last year (same thought process) and sent them to a Bosch Diesel Pump guy here in Ireland, who tested, declared they were 'wet'. sonicated, cleaned and retested. All he could say was afetrwards they all broke at the same pressure and were 'dry'. So I'm happy enough with them.

The engine definitely comes on cam at 5000ish, and pulls progressively better from 2,000.

I guess from your replies, that the flatness lower down is characteristic.
