Removing Throttle Body Nuts - Need Help

I am sending in my throttle bodies to Eurometrix (to Matt) to have them rebuilt. I have successfully removed the right side Throttle Body and have 5 of the 6 nuts removed for the driver's side (left side). I cannot get a 12 mm socket or a 12 mm wrench on the rear most nut (closest to the engine shroud for the fan. Can anyone help? Is there a special tool I need?

Thanks in advance for your time.

    Sincerely,

    Gary

Removing Throttle Body Nuts - Need Help

Gary, I use a 1/4" drive 12mm universal socket with a approx. 12-16 " extension and ratchet handle. The 1/4" drive stuff is great, I use it probably for 50% of what I do.

    13mm

Mine still have the original 13mm, and I removed them with a 3/8" swivel socket and extension. No problem.

    Thanks Olin,

I will get a 3/8 swivel socket and go back at it.

    Much appreciated.

    socket

    Gary,

By 3/8", I mean the driver (1/4", 3/8" 1/2"). The socket is a 13mm (on my car) swivel. It is important that you use the swivel socket and not the socket plus the swivel adapter.

I did not know how expensive these things are. Now I know why I only have the one size.

    Thanks Olin & Ed.

    Olin,

Thanks for clarifying, I guess I am not awake yet (little early in the morning). I was planning on getting a 12mm swivel socket probably a 1/4" drive.

    Thanks for following up.

Gary, get a regular M12 socket, NOT an "impact" version. The impact version is too big.

Get yourself a Stahwille flexible magnet to pick up the nuts and the steel spring washers (this is why they are steel and not Aluminum), you will thank yourself. (It also works to retrieve them from down the intake stacks )

I hope what I linked to wasn't an impact socket, my bad if it was. While retrieving those waashers and nuts, you will find yourself wondering how qill you get them back on. My magnet was too strong, so I used a nozzle from my B-12 can and placed the nut and washer at the top and held it with my finger tips of one hand. I then placed the opposite end on the stud with a little pressure and let the parts slide into place and let my fingertips get them started. I couldn't have reached into some areas with my hands. Saved me much time and did not drop any.

Another tip: Get a ziplock for stacks and one for TBs and count and recount before covering up the ports. Accountability is important here. I could not find one when I was putting everything together and it was still in the socket. Whew.

    Thanks John & Olin,

It is nice to have knowledgeable people like yourselves to help me from learning the hard way.

I got the throttle bodies off and they are on their way to get rebuilt.

    Thanks again for your input

Gary, when that box arrives from Matt, brace yourself, pour a good stiff drink and get ready to have your mind blown. Preview:
