    Vintage HO slot cars anyone?

I picked these up at a swap earlier this summer thinking that I might put it together for fun. The reality of space has set in though. Anyone collect these?

    Space, the final frontier

Dating myself just a little, OK, a lot - I was thrilled back in 1964 to receive the Grahm Hill endorsed Aurora Thunderjet 500 HO gauge slot car set. The first thing I did was hot rod the cars by swapping for better pick-ups, brushes, and motors. The cars got slicks or racing tyres to improve grip. (Wow did it begin that long ago???) As the years passed my humble track expanded 4 fold and was the hit of the neighborhood.

It now resides in the garage loft. Cars include GT40, XKE hardtop, tow truck, Camaro SS, and numerous others. No 356s were offered

Am a bit disappointed that a vintage racing set doesn't command a better value - but then it was a very popular set.

I remember having an HO set at home (that I soon totally destroyed) when I was a kid. I later started racing model cars at the local retail slot car track (anyone remember those?).

I actually bought a new HO slot car kit for my very own little Christmas present (2008).

In these times it is so easy to reflect back on HO Model Motoring days. We had a walk up attic with a ping pong table. We covered it with Masonite, laid our track, traced and cut it out. The end result was a flush track and after spray glue and sprinkled grass, glued on figures, grand stands, lighting, lap counter, etc, etc! we had our raceway. The "big bend" at the end of the straight was positioned near the stairs. If you went off you would go down a whole flight. Winter nights would find us racing and pouring over Auto World catalogues. I remember bringing a glass of water up to the attic and after racing for a few hours it would have ice on it! All for 1/20th the price of a used door pocket! Tjets had 904 bodies and AFX had the mighty 917, Gulf livery to boot! Life is good!

I grew up with these. This is the 904 that I bought new back when these were first released. Unmolested except for the coke bottle green glass (I still have the original Glaverbel). It runs fine.
