    Stu:

How does that mount into the case with that long hex shaped end? Maybe we will have to start fabricating these also.

I still can't really figure out why the factory used them. Those pumps were bolted down with 4 -10 mm bolts...doesn't seem they would be concerned about movement. Maybe the pumps occasionally pulled a stud (bolt) out of the case with the race engines because of their vibrating mass, but the only significant force acting on them was the belt on the back.

What was the application? I have never seen one of these before. I thought Stu was referring to the hollow rod that supports the pump mount plate...

Application began with the inception of the 2.5.

Pix below is with a later config. Just for illustration purposes.

    Question

Could this contraption be just the best way to rig a simple torque-over limiter, like we've seen on some race V8's .......

You disappoint me, Kenik. It appears you haven't been doing your homework.

Chuck, please explain to those of us who are not V8 guys, what a 'torque-over limiter' is.

Maybe the fuction is to be able to adjust tension on the cam belt before the nuts are tightened on the studs from the mounting base. Or, it could be a vibration damping brace.

The 2.14 turbo engine used 2 braces, one at each end. The pump had to be relocated to the opposite side because of the horizontal cooling fan.

    My mistake.......

Thought I was a convenient way to limit the motion of the engine from the chassis....... now I see the fixture is from pump to engine....

Here's a couple of pics showing the mounting on a 2.8 and a 908 - attachment point is on top of the case, to the right of the MFI oil feed banjo fitting. (908 pump support rod appears to be longer than the 911)
