    Interesting coupe

Here's an interesting coupe on ebay in San Diego. What's the likely story?

It looks like a great basis for spending $40k on a restoration to me. A '73 T Targa is going to be hard to justify the cost with unless you are doing everything yourself to save money. Wouldn't you rather start with something a little more upmarket? A Targa is not going to be the basis for a race/track car, so you are pretty much going stock, and I think you are better off buying a car that is done.

With that said, if someone buys it and is selling the parts, Ill buy the wheels if they are round and sound.

    Wait.......isn't the VIN# 9113100106 for a coupe and NOT a targa?

    911 for a 911
    3 for 1973
    1 for a "T"
    0 for a Coupe (1 for Targa)
    0106 sequential Number.

But that's what the data plate says.

And isn't the MFI with a green shroud from a 911E??

    WTF??

I thought it was kinda funny that he threatened to restore it if it didn't sell

"I am going to list it for sale on ebay just this once. If it does not sell them I am going to have the car restored."

Softie, 40K to restore? IMO more like 60-75k

I sent the seller an email about the VIN today regarding the discrepency. Waiting a reply.

Received a response from the seller. In short, he doesn't know much about early Porsches and relied on the PO for information. I pointed out the VIN problem and mentioned other places to look for the VIN but he won't be by the car until Monday. He seems genuinely unsure and I don't believe he is trying to "pull" anything. My opinion is it's an E targa that has had a front clip added at some time. We'll see---maybe.

I do not disagree. I do think that I would not embark on anything but a driver level resto on this car. That might keep costs down, or I might be guilty of my typical unfounded optimism in such matters.
