    66S resto

Well, after sitting for a year [the car, not me] I am finally starting the restoration of my 66 911S #305607S and will share information on the progress of this much anticipated endeavor. The 911S was sold in Germany by Rottger on 9-1-66 with motor #960081, long gone, Bahama yellow with green interior. The wood dash is not on Kardex and I think it is original but not certain. I have the names of 5 previous owners going back to early 70's. It was restored once by Automobile Associates in the 70's so I am happy to see less rust than I expected. The floor is rusted from outside storage with a window down. That horsehair padding is like a big sponge. You west coast guys might think its just plain ugly but by my standards its NICE. I have been collecting parts for 67S since the late 80's and even bought a new floor pan about a month before I found the car, maybe a premonition. I hope I dont bore everyone with minutiae but I am ready [with a little help from my freinds] to goooo I welcome all comments positive or negative. Best Regards, Rick

Look forward to following progress on your very early S.

I know you have been putting aside alot of good parts for the job.

The color combination of Bahama with Green will be fantastic!

    Didn't the '67 MY cars start at #305101 ?
Doesn't that make this very nice project a '67 ?

Or can I start saying that my car #305701 is a "66 ?

Not a S. Looks like a 66 Normal that someone played with (black trim) (Badges) Forged Vin Plate, but a SWB Longhood nevertheless.

Yes, the Kardex says 67. It is registered as a 66 and has that wood dash. Ive heard of maybe 2 other wood dash Ss but cannot document any. Money permitting it will have a green interior. I like the S stamp on the paint code plate, it looks like it was added later to fool unsuspecting buyers, the front data plate doesnt have an S but the body numbers both do. The front bumper has massive lead weights. My first 911 #305506 had smaller cast iron "lumps" in the front bumper. I dont think Ill be keeping them. The only non-standard parts on the car will be a wood wheel, deep 6" Fuchs, and maybe Recaro Rallye buckets. I appreciate your interest and hope to make some progress in the coming months. Best, Rick

The S did not have the weights on the bumper, the dashes were ALL basket weave, The Vins look altered and I see a few other clues. Take off the dash (2 bolts under the hood) and look at the top of the dashm I'll bet dollars to donuts that there won't be a S following the vin number.

    S or no S

Hi Rick, What is the Kardex saying ?
When did the car come to the US, ist there the original German KFZ Brief ?
When didRoettger sell this car ? 1st September 1966-that would be a car after the worksholidays and a 67 model or on the 9th January 1966 so it would be a true 66 model ? German date writting different but sometimes crucial...
