My friend Coop - his photos

As I mentioned in the thread on the 917 anniversary in off-topic, my good friend and colleague Charles (Coop) Cooper, was in Europe in the ’60s and ’70s working for Overseas Weekly and Stars and Stripes as a writer/photographer.
Here are some great old racing photos. I hope you guys enjoy these!

First: From left to right, Francois Cevert, Jackie Stewart and Clay Regazzoni, around 1971.

Second: Stewart in the Tyrell around 1971.

Third: Wonderful early evening shot at Le Mans 1968. The awesome Alfa Romeo T33B/2 leads a couple of Ferrari 250LM entries. (is that a 907 or a 908 just behind?)

Fourth: Seconds before the start of British GP at Brands Hatch, 1970.

Fifth: Shot from behind at the 1970 Spanish GP at Jarama.

    Cheers,
    Mark

    Pit Girls!!!

Coop said one of his main objectives was to shoot as many beautiful women as possible. His readers were mostly young military men from the U.S. and that's what they wanted to see. Makes perfect sense to me.

    First: Nina Rindt
Second: Emerson Fitipaldi, Joachen Rindt, Colin Chapman and Nina Rindt.
    Third: Alfa pit girl (Lemans?1968)
    Fourth: Brands Hatch, 1970
    Fifth: Nina Rindt, again

Great pictures. Thanks for posting. These bring back many memories for me. I saw Jochen Rindt at the Nurburgring in 1967 driving Formula 2, as well as Formula 1. Much too, short of a career. There was no better driver in the rain than Rindt.

Great photos. Keep 'em coming. I had the hots for Nina Rindt when I was a kid, but I figured it was a hopeless cause, as I didn't have the nose that she seemed to like.
Hmmm, this is a little scary, but I wonder if - subliminally - this had anything to do with me marrying a girl named Nina. Nah, too much of a stretch.

I'm very pleased you guys like these photos. Personally, I just love the racing bits from days past. I wasn't that familiar with Jochen Rindt but Coop filled me in on many details of his racing career, and this is really fascinating. The clip below of Rindt alone scratching his eye, bears the caption: For Rindt: what bad luck is in store?
That photo was shot two weeks before he was killed.

Below is Coop's description of the first photo:

"Graham Hill driving for Team Rindt at Formula 2 race in Austria in 1970,
two weeks before Jochen Rindt died during practice round at Monza for
1970 Italian GP. (I hadn't planned on covering that race, but when he
died on Friday, I jumped onto train and made it down for last Saturday
practice runs and the race on Sunday.)

Rindt was the pride of Austria, the first native to make his mark in
Formula One racing. It would be few more years before Nikki Lauda came
    along".
