    Dash needed for my 1972S

Help! I'm restoring my 1972 S and it has a big crack in the center of the dash.

Are there any alternatives to bending over and paying $1300 for a new one from Stoddard?

Somebody on Pelican told me about 928leathershop.com They supposedly restore old dashboards - looks like they do 911s for $550. Anybody have any experience with them? Does the dash look original when they are done? They say they have "German vinyl" whatever that means.

Otherwise are there any cheaper suppliers of OEM dashes?

Thanks for any help. Paint work is done, I can't wait to get dash done, a new headliner in there and the glass installed.

Thanks Chuck! You are much better with the search function than me, I didn't get those kind of helpful results. Looks like people are not thrilled with the new replacement dashes. I will have to explore autobahn interiors and see if they can restore mine - I have enough work on other interior pieces as well - door panels, etc.

I tussled with that same quandry as my 72 had a cracked dash as well. While vaselating, I stumbled upon a Pelican ad for a new dash in the box for $950 just about the same time the seller posted the ad. It turned out the guy was local to me and I offered $750 cash and I was willing to drive out to the guy's house the same day. The guy took my offer. Right place right time deal...The fit isn't the greatest on these new dashes and it required alot of triming for the proper fit. I also toyed with the recovering of the dash, but I was never able to see one to confirm its' acceptability.

    Try Tony at Autobahn

He might still have the one that came out of my 72T...

+1 for Tony at Autobahn. He can work with even the worst dash cores.

Is that right Glenn? I've got 3 cores, one reasonable, 2 that are cracked very badly and was going to toss. As long as it's complete, is no dash too badly cracked to save?

yeah, my dash was really bad. The internal metal frame had rust, the outside had literally dozens of cracks and was so structurally weak, it could easily be broken in half. Here's some pics. He does the speaker cover too from scratch.

If you don't want a recovered dash then you have to some how find a NOS Dash that was built years ago.
