From reading about the famous Steve Mcqueen 70S in your threads, I understood slate grey is it's original colour. I wonder if it was a catalogue colour or a special order?

THE MCQUEEN LEMANS 911S was a special order;I have the factory invoice
Thanks Frank, but tell me, is there a color code in a special order?
I believe that in 1969, slate grey was a catalogue color (schiefergrau 6801 ?)right?

I believe that in 1970 it would have been a special order color. Perhaps Frank can tell us the code stamped on the cars badge.

In the book McQueens Machines; it talks about how Steve McQueen wanted the understated look in his cars; hence both 69 and 70 911S is Slate Grey. The Lisso Ferrari was Rootbeer Brown and the Morris Miner a drab light tan. Another consideration was likely so he would not be noticed by the cops while he was speeding down Sunset Blvd on his way home from work in Hollywood. Chris Early 911S reg.#205
Resurrecting an old thread, I'd love to see pics of any early 911/912's in slate grey. Any pics appreciated. Was there any change between the slate grey of SWB cars and LWB's?

Here is a picture of our all numbers matching '66 Euro 912 (Chassis # 352288 Engine # ) Delivered at the factory 2/18/66, t is one of first 300 912's produced in '66 and as result contains many end of run 356 parts. It is in as delivered condition. We purchased from a friend who was the original owner in 2009 and completed a bare metal "refresh" in early 2010. Car had essentially no rust. Only things we replaced were the headliner and carpets. All else simply needed cleaning/refreshing. Great looking and great to drive. Lots of factory options including a chrome Porsche ski rack and a still largely intact parts kit. 5 speed trans, 5 guage dash, chrome slotted wheels, tinted rear window, Blaupunkt Frankfurt radio complete.
