Chassis 911 360 0972 was sequentially the 972nd of 1,580 Carrera RS 2.7 models completed by Porsche.

This particular example was however ordered new under racing option code “M471” which was a complete basic “light weight” racing package primarily geared for private owners looking to go racing in a variety of Touring and GT classes for which these cars where eligible.

Porsche has records for only 200 such examples and chassis 911 360 0972 was sequentially the 132nd of those completed. It was finished and ready for delivery in March of 1973 at which time it was sold new to well-known German race driver, Klaus Samuliet.

Samuliet took delivery directly from the Factory with new road-registration that allowed him to enter the GT and Touring Races he had scheduled for the remainder of the 1973 Season.

Over the next five years, Samuliet competed in no fewer than forty two rallies, races and hill climbs. Most important of these where his excellent results obtained in the 1973 running of the Tour d’Europe, German Rallye and the 1000kms of Nurburgring. With Samuliet at the wheel, chassis 911 360 0972 was a consistent podium finisher with 21 appearances in the top three spots. He had eight third place finishes, six second place finishes and no less than seven outright victories!

While actively raced for many years, chassis 911 360 0972 was always meticulously maintained and serviced. A thorough and complete set of original records, receipts, documents and photographs completely document each moment of this car’s life and confirm its uniquely original nature. Careful, detailed inspection and evaluation by subsequent owners with direct assistance from the Porsche Factory has confirmed each and every time that this car still retains to this day its original chassis (tub) and engine and is as such a truly “matching numbers” example. While this is rare for an RS 2.7, it is impossibly rare when you realize it was a heavily campaigned ultra-low production original M471 Factory “Light Weight” example!

In 2002, this Porsche was given a comprehensive and extensive restoration by noted Swiss collector and then owner, Marc De Siebenthal. Upon completion of the work and the issuing of full FIA documents, De Siebenthal entered the car in numerous historic Touring and Racing events including the Modena Centro Oro (1st in Class and 4th outright) as well as numerous entries in the Tour de France (Tour Auto.)

Today this Porsche is fitted with a full roll-cage, and has both the original light weight Reccaro Sports Seats as well as modern FIA legal racing seats a Halda Trip Meter and Peltor in car communication device.

Last year the car was completely validated and inspected and issued new FIA HTP documents. The HTP documents are included with the car along with the FIA documents that were issued in 2002. Additionally there is an incredible set of binders containing original records, race results, Porsche Factory documents, correspondences, invoices, period and current photos as well as myriad notes and records from previous owners. In conclusion, the incredible history outlined above is fully documented and is without question.

    Price: $395,000

If this car is not one of the "rare air" 73 RS examples, I don't know what is, this car is amazingly sexy.

I was with Hugh talking to the owner of the car at Phillip Island. He gave no indication of an impending sale although he was grappling with how to avoid some serious taxes after having had the car in Aust for the max of 2 years (owner is was British)

I guess he chose the sale path soon after to solve the problems and based on what I have heard the sale price was Symbolic will be doing nicely at the asking price.

Lights added since last year it seems based on Hughs pics it looked nice close up remembering it has always been a race car
