matching of oil level gauge to sender?

As I progress (?) with converting my 912 to 6 cyl, I was wondering if the oil level gauge in the dash has to be date matched to the sender in the oil tank used? Since the oil level sender design changed year to year, I was wondering if I put in a 1971 tank if that means I need a 1971 gauge since the 1972 and 1973 senders were different.

Or, if the output range of the senders is all the same and any gauge will work.

    Cheers!

    Anyone? Beuhler?

Does anyone know the output voltages of the oil senders? I.e. if you don't have a gauge hooked up, to check them with a voltmeter?

I have the tank out on my 72 T, sorting out some oil leaks.

My sender unit reads from 0 to 180 ohms, but I have no idea if that is correct and accurate.

I can't give you a 100 % answer, but I'll bet they're all the same gauge wise. A call to North Hollywood or Palo Alto would give you the definitive answer.

I would match the tank, sender and gauge to model year. I would consider 70-71 to be the same. gled
