Window Cranks: Are these from some other car?

Hello- on my previous '68, I had a window crank with a large rubber knob and a plastic piece that covered most all of the handle itself. On this '68, it has the window crank pictured, with a small plastic knob and a black insert, and a seperate round area for another missing trim piece. At least, that's what it looks like to me. I removed the little insert, and tried to clip in one of my extra larger trim "covers" I had in a box, but the mounting clips are different and it doesn't fit. So, do I have some earlier model of window crank, or from a VW, because the others broke and the PO just swapped 'em? Curious. I'd like to put the right circular piece of trim in them to cover the mounting screw, but I can't find 'em.

As a side note, I think at one point an earlier car was raided for parts for this one. The seatbelts have labels on them as "Porsche 1966", and it has 1966 4.5Jx15 chrome steelies on it, so maybe the door handles came from that other car as well.

Yep, that is a 67 crank. The early ones don't have the black insert inside the "triangle" they are open for 64-66. And they probably BROKE a great deal, hence their relative scarcity and the factory's change to a solid part in 1967.

I have extras if you need some inexpensively.

Ah! In retrospect, checking my 911 Spotters Guide book first would have been a great idea. Since my car was built in 10/67, I wonder if it's possible these are the originals, and just an example of Porsche using up the supply of them before changing over to the "newer" ones.

Short answer, yes 30465, if you have a couple of used round covers I can get inexpensively from you, that would be great. Send me a PM when it's convenient.

    All the best, Brad

Those plastic inserts, especially the round one that fits the screw are hard to come by.

Chris Nielsen desperately needs one of those cranks for his '67 project for the RGruppe meet. Please email him if you want to sell. PM me for his contact info, if so.

The cranks I have. The covers, well lets just say I haven't felt desparate enough to buy two pieces of plastic from eBay for $50.

Kenik, I'll check my inventory and will report back. I know I have at least two of the '67 which are of no use to me.
