Thread: Wood steering wheels

    Wood steering wheels

I have a couple of wood steering wheels that I have made. These are not originals, but look almost identical, to the originals. I'm selling these for $500 & $600. The difference between the two is that the lesser priced wheel has the wood joined with butt joints. With that you can see some of the joints, but makes it look older. The other wheel does not show the joints. These are mahogony, and coated with three coats of epoxy, followed by several coats of satin polyurethane. Pictures available on request. Just email me.

Additionally, if you have old steering wheels, I can make wheels for you. And can finish in satin or gloss poly.

I have seen these in person, and they look fantastic.

do you have pics to show everyone? especially what you mean about the butt joints etc. I know if i didnt have an original wood wheel on my car that I would swipe one of these up in a heart beat. the craftsmanship on these is incredible, and look identical to the original wood wheels on early 911s.

    Harry,

Thanks for the compliment. I have pictues, that I can email.

The butt joint shows the space between the ends of the strip that is bent around the wheel. It is hardly noticable, but I wanted to state that. The scarfed joint does not show the joint.

Email sent to Erik. One of the wheels has been spoken for. Pending payment. Will have more as soon as I can find some old wheels that want to come back to life as a wood wheel.

Planning on making another soon. If anyone is interested I can make it thicker if someone wants. The wheel I have to use is a 400 mm.
