What was the original sales price for a 1967 911S?

Based on average options, what was a typical sales price from the dealer for a 1967 911S? There is a line on some concours applications requesting this information and I really don't know how to respond.

Paternie's 'Red Book' has the '67 S at $6,990. A separate price for a '67 S Targa isn't mentioned but it was probably a little bit more.

    Considering.....

The base price for a '67 Vette coupe was $4388 .... the badest ass go fast options you could get (L88 - L89) would cost you $1500 more.... Still a half a grand less than a 911S......

Back then Porsche’s = Doctors, lawyers, and pilots ……..

    ....... and so it went

    Targa option was $350

Sport seats were $15 each... but remember they took out the original seats, and they were probably more expensive to make in the first place!

That is about $40,000 in today's dollars according to one on-line tool. Frankly, I'd have thought it would be more.

If you did it in dollars per pound of weight...and then reworked the calc it would probably come out even... given what a 911 (997) weighs these days!!

    Thank you!

Some great information and some fun ideas to ponder as well. Now I want to know why my college professor father didn't have an "S" in the garage instead of the Datsun 610 wagon. Lime green no less! Must have been the wife and three kids cramping his style.

Funny! I get it. Anyway, they don't sell Porches by the pound but if they did the less the weight the more the cost/lb. In fact I guess they do as you pay more for a lighter GT3 or GT3RS or especially a Cup Car which is much lighter.

On the other hand, those 50 lb bumper weights (how unPorsche was that!) ..well that was something else!
