    Elise/Exige

My wife rented a Lotus for me, for a day, for my birthday, last year. I used like I would a regular car --- like a really big test-drive; city streets, highways, a couple of country roads, even bought groceries. My 911 bug had already bit, but I was still pondering my choices.

Anyway, the car I had had maybe 5k miles on it, clean enough, but obviously a Rental --- not somebody's baby. Stripped equipmemt-wise --- standard suspension, etc. A little rattly and un-finished-feeling (they all are) but everything worked, minimal wear-and-tear.

What a HOOT! Super quick, easy to point, with braking and cornering that makes traffic seem like everybody else is parked. Really, I had to consciously back-off to keep from just annihilating everything on the road in front of me. But it wasn't very fun to drive at higher speeds in a straight line --- way too busy in the front, and way too quick to respond to the steering.

I wouldn't give $40k+ for one, even if it was new. But a few years down the road? Something that well-finished, with a Toyota motor, and all plastic bodywork that won't rot or ding would make one HELL of a 2nd (or 3rd, 4th, etc) car. Its a nervous-feeling car to use on the streets I drive . . . but I could get used to it! I could probably jack-knife myself into an Exige. But driving either one of them in the rain would be nuts.

Still, when the prices drop down into the $20ks . . .

I know where a perfect track builder is for only $16K, a 2004.
If I could wear one, I'm sure you could too
