Thread: Engine Lid Rain Shield.

    Engine Lid Rain Shield.

Curios, all the 912s came with Rain shields on the underside of the engine lid. With the stock air filter setup on a 911 they do not work. My question is a 2 part that Im curious to hear some answers on .

1: Why did porsche find it necessary to install this on a 912 compared with a 911?

A:? - Was it because the rain shield decrease the amount of cooling into the engine and didn't allow the amount of air the 911 motor needs to breath?

2: Did they make a 911 Rain Shield?

A:? I had always thought no they didn't yet I have had a conversation with someone who claimed to have an early 911 Rain shield and he says it's different that the 912 shield. That it has lower areas that allow the factory air filter/snorkel to fit.

It would be interesting to know a bit more on this matter.

    Thanks,

    JW

I was told it had to do with the distributor location on the 912. Also , mabe the wire mesh air cleaners to would take on water at full roar...I don`t use one on my 912 with a $5000.00 rebuild that doesn`t run!!! and it aint because of rain in the carbs or distributor either!!
