Thread: 205X60 or 195X65 on 7X15" rims

    Question 205X60 or 195X65 on 7X15" rims

I've been running 205X60 Yokohama AVS's on my 7X15" rims with 21mm and 26mm torsion bars. The ride height at the rear is a little over 24 and 3/4 inch and rear camber at almost 2 deg.neg camber. With a 200lb. passenger I get a slight rub on the inner fender just above my wheel arch trim. I was wondering before I purchase a set of tires would 195X65 give me a little more room? Most of the tires offered even in the 205 series are really all season and not really Performance tires. I remember when we ran 185/70's on 7" rims and had the ride height set pretty low. That is always an option, however the price of these vintage tires are pretty high. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Have had both 195s and currently 205/60s on 7x 15s and like you, get an occasional rub on my right rear fender ( not often, but it's still just touching)
The 195s did not rub, but finding a VR 195 is diffficult. Goodyear has a new Eagle GT that looks intereesting, but still an A/S tire. Perhaps I need to sell my perfect 15x7 or trade for some deep sixes!

    Goodyear Eagle GT

I'm presently running Goodyear Eagle GT tires all round on my '72S - 6x15 fronts and 7x15rears. Same experience as Martin - the occasional rub, also rt rear (what's with that?) Like Martin I'm also running a little over 2 deg neg camber.
I'm wondering whether setting my Konis to full hard will help (unlikely). I have a pair of deep sixes without hearts that I am contemplating fitting to help overcome the "rub", but I do like the way the 7's fill out the wheels arches.
As has been mentioned, 205/60s differ from brand to brand, so sometimes test fitting them is the only way to know for sure if you are using 7's.
A friend of mine has Pirelli P6000 215/60s on 7Rs rears on his 71 911E - no clearance issues.
Let us know how you get on.

I did set my Koni's 2 turns stiff, however, the tire still rubbed. Also, with the 21mm, 26mm torsions bars, the car was too stiff for the street. I'm now at 1 turn stiff.Even with this set up the car will squat pretty low in the rear upon accereration. I imagine accererating in a turn is the cause.
