Being a 912 guy - this makes me sad.

Doesn't make sense. As a '65 it should have a painted dash and washer bottle in the fender. It looks more like a '66 and later car.

Yes - maybe someone tried to "update" it? I am no expert on the earliest cars, but wrong shift knob too. but right window cranks I think. I thought the true "prototypes" had round gas fillers and no deco trim? The washer bottle is odd, and there appears to be a plugged hole in the front latch plate for the later style. There is a "360 degree view" promo film shot at the Virgina HQ that was reported to be the first "U.S." 911 in light ivory, but on closer inspection it appears to be a 912 because of 3 gauges and a painted dash. Maybe this is that car.

I'm no SWB guy, so I may have it wrong.

But, isn't the script on the rear decklid wrong? Shouldn't it be the diagonal 901/912 tyue script in the lower right hand corner of the lid?

Also, the rear bumpers have S deco trim on them. Is that right?

The location of the VIN plate in the trunk goes along with prototype placement, though.

Agree with previous post about maybe having been updated over time. Very common.

the rear deck could have been easily replaced and the dash could have been updated with al strips. it still has a 3 gauge dash.. which is a good indication, but does not confirm. numbers match.. good sign.

I am with Don.. this makes me sad. every time someone bastardizes or lets a 911 or 912 rot away, god kills a baby kitten.

Have you seen the RHD '67 on The Samba? I think God slaughtered a whole litter because of what happened to it.
