    Rookie Carb Adjustments

So here goes. New 911 owner here,
    http://www.early911sregistry.org/for...ad.php?t=27688
I have been sorting a 69 T with Webbers. Cleaned the tank, bushings in the pedals, rebuilt calipers, changed oil. It's running good, but I am now to the carbs. I have rebuild kits coming from Stoddards. It's running, but I have a feeling (feeling?) it should be running better.

I finally turned the mixture screws all the way in, counting as I went, seated them and turned them back out. It seemed to run smother, maybe imagination.

This is all I have done. My question is, how would one proceed with these things. I know I need a syncronizer, but can I make some basic adjustments without taking them apart and cleaning them first? Maybe links to some good threads? I probably better do some searching, I was just looking for some very basic info. Hows that old book the Pelican sells? Whats the worst that can happen when I start turning them screws?

1-Check throttle shafts for play. no tuning if too much play. Get up with Paul Abbott at performanceoriented.com if you have this problem.
    2-Set linkages and throttle cam/WOT.
3-Get synchronizer thingy and start going through the usual process. I posted a link to a great write up on this in the 'all time best tech threads' thread.

worst that can happen is you burn a hole in one or more pistons driving a severely out of tune car.

Thanks guys, now just have to get to it!

I have set the points. I pulled the distributor to get it timed AND be able to snap the cap clamps. It didn't seem right. I had to adjust the timing to get it started. Fired right up.

I have not adjusted the valves yet, oh boy, I better get to that!

Thanks again for the links and I promise to SEARCH!

And thanks for the synchrometer offer. i will most likley get my own soon, seems like it would be almost mandatory owning this car.

By the way, whats with the Italian sh....stuff?
Also a "whats wrong with this picture" picture (brakes)....yea thats right, not enough pistons, slight ordering mistake. I got them all new now though.

    Good news bad news

Good news is that Supertec Performance or other sources can build you a Bosch distro replacement ($600ish) for your Marelli, bad news is that you have a Marelli where the parts supply is limited to non-existent.
