Help.... My glove box door is jammed..

    I have a 1973 T.

The original key has never been able to lock or unlock the glove box. Today, I can not get the box open. I do not know if it is the lock or if it is just jammed. Though it does not seem jammed. Not a crisis but given the contents I need to eventually open. How do I get in? Remove the knee bar and unscrew the door? Locksmith? I do not want to create unnecessary damage.

This must be a security feature I never heard about; clear 120mph and the glove box automatically locks!

    Glovebox stuck!

Might be able to take the box out after removing the strap that holds it in place, & unscrew the lock retaining bolt and or, depress the release button to open the door..

I've actually had this happen to me on my 73'S! You have to unbolt the knee pad (not to hard, just get a 8mm socket with a small extension). Then you need to get a small punch and punch the pin out of the hinge (yes, this hinge is very thin and long, but just knock it out just far enough so you can get a grip on the hinge with a pair of pliers. Once you grip the hinge with a pair of pliers knock the pliers with a hammer and the whole pin should come out.

Before you start taking things appart. Try turning it really hard. Happend to me once and I was able to get it open in his manner. The whole mechanism will turn (if it is like mine) and not the little catch.

    Good luck

Happened on my 74. I actually had to cut the metal strap holding the glove box in. Then I could remove the box and reach the lock at the back. Repaired the strap with 4 pop rivets and a 2" x 1/2" strip of thin aluminum.
