    Front license plate help?

    Hello
I have acquired a pair of license plate mounting brackets as RI requires a front plate to pass inspection. It's a shame since the car does not appear to have ever had front plates before.

I don't quite understand how these attach etc. Can someone post a picture or two of an early car with front plate? Non S bumper, of course.

    Thanks!

    Dan

Here's a photo of the most attractive and "Porsche-esque" installation I've seen to date.

That is essentially what I have ( see post #9 in this thread). Brackets available from Stoddard. Because you cannot easily access the area with the bumper mounted to install nuts, you either need to use sheet metal screws OR make square holes and use the square plastic inserts that accept sheet metal screws available from you local auto parts store. I used the inserts because of the fiberglass bumper.

    Front plate mounting solution?

Granted it's not the most handsome solution but it is very functional and requires no drilling into any part of the car.

    Side view of mount

Sorry, forgot to add the second view. This view shows the small tabs that rest agains the cross brace of the underside of the car to prevent it from shifting side to side.

if it is just for the inspection and you will take them off after and you have a virgin bumper then how about some sticky tape for a temp solution

then after the inspection off with the plate

    Front plate

I had a friend who scanned my plate into his sign making computer and it spit out an exact copy on 3M reflective vinyl. I then applied it to the lower front bumper like a large bumper sticker. I have never had a problem with inspections or the police.

This is where I ended up. I used a bracket from a later car (924?) , and attached it to the front bumper through holes I drilled. This was a bummer for the bumper, but it had an assortment of holes anyway (which the plate covers up). I used to have the brackets pictured in early posts of this thread, but my front plate would scrape on diveways regularly. The plate mounted at the angle never scrapes, even though I have lowered the ride height. I wasn't going to scrape up my restored plates with the vertical bracket!

+1. I have some repro German Plates that I want to mount on the car and be able to easily remove the CA yellow on black plates used for driving when I go to display it.
