    Fan Blade Rubbing

    Hello All:
I just reassembled my fan/alt/housing. The housing is not original to the
engine and I had the original fan pulley removed, replated and re-riveted. After starting the car the fan is slightly rubbing at 8:00 and has a 1/8-3/16 gap at 2:00.
The riveted pulley half sits recessed in the fan and is self centering and the fan/alt assembly is bolted to the housing. Is it possible to get the blade and housing to be concentric? Or why is it out of center?
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    50/50

Is it out of concentricity, or crooked in the housing? If it is just crooked perhaps you didn't get the alternator seated squarely in the housing.

Can you tell me what type of rivets you used to assemble it back ?

I planned to do it also, but I was not sure because I didn't find anything close for the rivets...

    Thanks, JD

    JD,

Some use U.S. standard revits and machine them down to the proper metric head size and look.

    Hope this helps

I have seen rubbing when there were cracks in the fan housing. The struts holding the alternator mounting ring cracked, allowing the mount to drift off center.
