    Exclamation Early 24 Heures Du Mans Grill Badge

    I was watching the 24 Heures du Mans this morning and it occured to me that someone might be interested in this. It has had a prominent place in my display case for years and I don't sell it willingly. It is beautiful to my eyes.

    This is an early original grill badge, a genuine period piece. I cleaned it up a little, but it still has it's original patina. I'm asking $450 or first best offer.

    Too late...
    Never seen one of these before. Are they very hard to find?
    Would have been nice on my car.

    Again, thanks for all the offers. I have another one identical to this, but not in this condition, and not for sale. I have only ever seen the two that I've owned, and I have a photo archive of 1900+ images of car badges. I have seen very nice versions with open wheel GP cars.

    There are other versions of "night and day" Le Mans badges, but not with the sport coupe cars, and not this early. Some re-pops are out there with sedan cars on them and kind of crappy enamel.

    Jens;
    any ideas on the approximate vintage of this design?
    ...and yes, mediocre repops of the more desirable pieces have been steadily increasing. some sellers go so far as to show a photo of an original, then ship their reproduction. hey, let's be careful out there.

    Jens,

    I've seen only other one like yours .... ever ... good collecting buddy...

    The badges came in different years with different designs and slightly different sizes...

    The one I have is also original, heavy, about 95mm, and is the one that is repoped the most. The repops are light weight, very shiny, and painted.
    I have also seen originals like mine that are slightly smaller with the outer serrated ring in gold/brass.

    I paid about $55 for mine at a auto lit fair about 18 years ago.
    The last time I saw a real one like it was about 4 years ago at the British vender from Wine Country Motor Sports at the Monterey Historics. The price on it then was about $300.

    I had mine on my 911 grill until I designed, and we started to produce, our own Registry badges in '96..... it now sits in a display case...

    Cheers
