    Sportomatic Shifter Parts Question-Pics!

    Hellooooooo,
Here are some pics. I finally took the seats out of the 69 and looked in the tube. I have a two questions about pic #4: Is this shifter a sporto only deal? and is there suposed to be some sort of packing at the bottom. It seemed like what I picked out of the groove would have been something, Not sure what?
First pic was fathers day. Shifter parts are tonight's pics. I guess will be driving a Vanagon to the Mid Ohio Vintage, rats...I got some parts from Stoddards, the ball cup is backordered though. That's the one I really need, will they be able to get it?

Anyhow, any comments or advice would be great! Thanks

The shifter is a sporto only deal and it has a bushing in the groove you mentioned. Unless I bought the last bushing, they are still available.

    Thanks John,
Thats what it looked like it needed. I will see what I can come up with. The ball cup is coming, so maybe I can get this stuff back together soon. I also have the other bushings. This car seems to need new bushings everywhere. There wasn't a trace of a bushing in the pedals or the back bellcrank. So far, so good!

You can cheat with that bushing and use 3 o rings from a garden hose snap-lock fitting. Works perfectly.

When I re-did my 69 there was not a bit of rubber or plastic intact...

I once bought a 75 Targa as a parts car from a guy who, when the rear shift linkage bushings dintigrated, wrapped the entire coupler with duct tape. And then wondered why the shifter "felt a little vague".

    Shifter parts

Yea, mine was "a little vague", the ball cup was destroyed, no duct tape though. Here are a couple more pics. How about my "Tunnel Vac"? I wanted to blow air through without crap getting everywhere. Anyhow, that project is done. Now the carbs are off Have a great 4th!
    Thanks for your responses,
    Dan
