    Spare Tire with 100L Tank

What type of spare tire (if any) was used with a 100L tank in a SWB?

    Thanks,
    JohnA

Mine has an extra 4.5" Fuch. Fits fine.
It should have a carpet section which
    covers the spare tyre.

    Here ya go....
    Shamelessly stolen from a UK site a while ago...noted as a '67 S.
The wheel/tyre should be 4.5 or 5.5 steel or alloy according to whatever else was on the other four wheels.

    Cheers,
    Dennis.

I love the 911s registry.....John asks a question from the USA, and gets two answers from members in Australia, one has a reference from a car in the UK.
    Nice stuff!!

Does someone have a photo of the spare held down with a leather strap? I'm guessing John doesn't run carpet up front.

I found a picture in Brett Johnson's book. There is a bracket that looks just like the ones used for luggage tie-downs mounted just below where the VIN is stamped. And the strap used looks just like the ones used to hold spares in the 356's. Tom's right, I'm going to go ahead and delete the front carpet given that this is an industrial strength car. And set it up with the strap configuration that is pictured in Brett's book. It appears that a regular size wheel and tire will fit there fine. I'm going to delete the tire cover as well.

Thanks to everyone for all the help. This is an awesome community. See you in Carmel!

    Cheers,

    Strap(s)

The ex-French Blue ST. This was how it showed before the restoration by Gary Kempton.

repro 356 leather spare tire hold down strap needs to be "distressed"

Footman's bracket mounted as in Andy's post above and positioned same as in Dr. Johnson's book on p.36 of The 911 and 912 Porsche A Restorer's Guide to Authenticity.

    Fuchs 4 1/2 with 175/70

100L tank was epoxy painted but is too glossy - should be satin
