    1974 Carrera

    I know this is just one year older than the norm for this registry. Has anyone seen this car from Two Shores;

    http://www.2-shores-classics.com/gar..._id=92&lang=us

It has been on their site for at least 6 months since I last noticed it.

I know that John Audette had a lime green last year.

Does anyone know this particular car, any feedback as to the dealer, what do you think of the price?

I find that I keep going back to the site often to look at it.

    '74 RS Pricing

    Hey, Max . . . .

Pretty car, huh? I just looked at the photos again, a few days ago.

2-Shores has sold some nice stuff and for top-dollar --- look-up 'Grandpa' in the archives --- but I take the fact that this vehicle's been sitting @$70k to mean their asking-price is high.

FWIW, I'm not sure how rare these Euro-versions are (my SCM pocket guide says that 16,997 '74-'75 Euro 2.7s were built, which sounds high), but it looks like it would be a fun car. I would double-check the values; quoting SCM again, they have them at $30k low - $35k high. If this still looks like something you might want, then do a PPI; factor that cost into any offer, if things get that far.

2-Shores will make some money, but if someone gets it for a decent price, then they should be able to enjoy it and not get hurt.

    Good luck.

    74 Carrera

    Hi Rick,

I usually do not weigh if any of our cars are talked about on the registry, however, just to correct your pocket price guide.
    There were 1026 2.7 Carrera Coupes built in 1974, 518 in 1975 and 123 in 1976.
Whatever SCM refers to with 17000 cars had to be perhaps all of the 2.7 cars combined. Still sounds high to me. But the Carrera 2.7 cars run the 911-83 type engine of the RS and built numbers are actually quite close to those of the RS.

As far as value goes, we have sold those cars in excess of 100k and I am told one example has sold for 140k in the US. I am also an avid SCM reader, but price guides....... I don't know.
This car is a matching Carrera 2.7 except for its color. A blast to drive.

    Regards,

    Hey, 'Carnut' . . . .

I try to be careful and cite the sources for any numbers I use in this sort of post, be they production numbers or values; Martin's figures are what I happen to have handy, at the moment, so that's what I gave, and I said so.
And if something sounds funny to me, I say as much. As you did.

Which begs a question: Is there a 'best accepted' or 'most accurate' source for Porsche's production figures? I've seen all kinds of sources referenced here, from PCA and The Redbook and CPI. Where did you get your numbers from?

    Hi Max,

I'll be up in Lake Mills in a couple weeks before heading up to Road America for the Brian Redman vintage racing. I think I can persuade the owner to let me take it out for a thra.... er....I mean test drive. Be glad to give you an report after that.

. . . nothing like some seat-time to put things into perspective.

I'd be real interested to hear your opinion as to how the '74 Carrera compares to your '73. Have fun!

    74 Carrera Euro

I have owned probably 30 euro Carrera's from 74/75. Right now I actually own one of the 123 2.7 1976 coupes from Europe, last series of 2.7 MFI cars ever made. These cars are the same as a 73 Rs touring in the G body. A llittle bit better driving cars.
The only reason this car is sitting, is the market that we are now going through. A year or so ago this car would be gone. The 74.75 EuroCarrera's were going for that price here in the states. In Europe, where they really know what these cars are, they were selling for 100K for a real nice one, or even higher for a perfect restored car. John Audette posted a link to educate those who need to be.
As far as the car mentioned, I'm sure the Carrera is a good one, as the owner brought it over from Germany himself. As far as the seller goes, I haven't done business with him, but by talking to him, he seems honest and credible.
