Ballpark cost for replacing all body seals?

    Hi all,

I'm very close to purchasing a car that is going to need a windows-out repaint. Because I'm trying to broadly estimate what the car is going to need, I'd like to hear from any owners who were in the same situation and decided to replace all of the body seals (doors, windows, trunk, etc.). Did you use nothing but Porsche products? Did you blend in less expensive aftermarket parts? What's a good number (dollar-wise) to budget for such an undertaking?

It's a '72T if that makes any difference.

    Thanks in advance,

    -Mike

I'm going to take a wild guess just remembering the prices of some of the rubber I've replaced and say ~$2000 plus 8-10 hours of labor if you aren't doing it yourself. Say $3k.

    Rubber

Get the catalogs and look it up, it may take 10 minutes?

Most the seals are on Stoddard's website - use that tho add them up - and then fax it to your favorite supplier (in my case - Classic and Speed Parts) - I saved about 15% including the CA sales tax.

Thanks all. I would have tried looking them all up, but never having ordered them before I thought there might be some insight into commonly-missed items.

The prices quoted were within what I thought a job like this must cost.

    John...

I'm doing a '67 Softie right now and your list is really helpful - Thanks!

    Cheers,
    JohnA

P.S. It would be great to archive this kind of information in a permanent section of the website. I was Technical Editor of the 356 Registry site and the technical section there has grown to be a definitive resource over the years. I know there's a technical section here, which is a good start, but it seems to be pretty inactive. Any interest in making it more current and dynamic? Chuck?

you might try Sunset Porsche as they advertise in some of the porsche magazines and claim wholesale prices plus 15%. they might be more competitive.

Where rubber is concerned, be certain you are getting OEM. Trying to fight with an aftermarket rubber piece that doesn't fit is asking for frustration.

Except in the case of the Targa Front seal. The correct part for our older cars comes from Carsinc. The Factory seal is much thicker and must be cut down and still doesn't fit correctly.
