    1972 911S coupe for sale

I am selling my 1972 911S signal yellow which has just undergone a repaint in the original signal yellow. Engine is matching and has recently been freshened. Car has sport seats, a California car with a very clean body.
    The car drives excellent $72,000

    Mike,
Welcome to the SRegistry. They play hard here, and they have long memories of anything with a motor in the rear and an"S" on the decklid....

Beautiful car. If this is the same one discussed in the Pelican thread it was a real stroke of luck to find the original engine. Love to hear the story...

Sure looks a lot nicer than it did in '04. Asking slightly more, too.

Carefully read the description. There is no mention of restoration as we have come to know and expect. There are no pictures of the right side, engine bay, underside or trunk. Only mentions that the car was painted and the engine was freshened. I hear you can put Orbit gum in the tank for that. Gearbox? And consider the fact that there are junk cars in the backdrop and what appears to be a used car lot with assorted types, ie, not German, Italian, Sports, Porsche, Ferrari, or Mercedes specific. And if you check the other ad by the seller, he has an 69S and is looking for an T or E body. Yes, I just implied that he might swap vin plates.

Lets put the restoration costs into perspective if it were restored to make this a $72,000 car. If any of these items were done, I would highly recommend the owner to post more info and details (such as who performed the work). My figures are only guesses, but I am sure I will be corrected.

    Original Purchase plus transportation $11,500
    Bodywork on prior condition: $12,000
    Paint if well done: $5000
Recaro seats (not in original sale):$5000
    Engine (not in original sale):$4000
    Assumed missing MFI: $3000
Rebuild motor: $10,000 (but the description said "freshened"...hmmmm
Rebuild MFI Pump and TBs $3000
Fuchs (not in original Sale) $2000 - finished
    Carpeting:$500
    Correct turn lenses: $400
    Unpainting chrome: $400
    Passenger mirror (why?) $100
    Correct steering wheel $150
    S bumper $1000
    Rear bumperettes:$200
    Wrong dash:$500

That's a smidgen under $60,000. And if you throw in stuff I missed, it will clear $60k. If all of this was done and it was done to a level of care I would expect; this is a good buy regardless of the previous condition or purchase price. Lots of ifs, but I am afraid this is going to eBay if not already and somebody unfamilier with this forum could buy it.

Things still needed: Correct Dash $1000 or more, uninstalled
Rear Wiper: $300 or more for used parts, uninstalled
    Maybe toolkit: $350 or more
Factory Impact bumpers: $1000, if you can find them.
Correct door panels and door pockets and armrests $1500

Missing the correct dash, bumpers, and rear wiper makes me very sceptical of the level of detail put into this project.

Let's see more pictures and receipts. Otherwise, I am assuming that this was a $30k restoration with a $11k purchase and the deal smells bad.

Call me a bad person for assuming this but something didn't sit right with me as soon as I saw the shinny polished rims on a restored "S" for $72K. Call me crazy

Well, I'd say add the steering wheel back into the "must do" because it looks like the ebonite 400mm and not leather wrapped. The sport seats look like they were recovered in domestic vinyl. The grain is not the original 72/73. IF you go back to the original door panels it will be highly noticeable. Hood badge.

On the other hand, I think he has the right bumpers for the 72 other than maybe the fronts. Were those standard on the US front by then?

I'd like to see a picture of the dual rear tow hooks per the COA. That sounds cool. I think I've only seen one installed before.

I agree, added pics would help. Pictures of restored running gear, trunk and engine/bay.

Does seem all the money and then some.
