    Question 69-71 Ignition Locks

I know the door handle lock tumblers can be re-worked to match a key but, can the ignition lock be reworked in the same manner? Hoaw about the glove box lock?

The key to my 70 was a generic replacement and is so worn that there is no way I can have a new key cut. I've a line on both original keys from another 70 with at least one tumbler that I'd like to use provided I can use my existing ignition switch lock.

    Good stuff guys, thanks!

Since I'm a stickler for patina originality, I'm gonna pull the trigger on the keys and single lock. I knew I'd have no problems with the door locks. It was the ignition I was worried about.

I knew I could have new keys cut from my ignition lock code but, then they would be the new replacement keys and I've heard the red Valet key has a different head style from the original.

    Sometimes its the small things....

If your wanting to be down without keys for a bit and all the parts are removed, I can match and re-key the ignition and doors for you. It's not too difficult and since I purchased an old factory re-key kit with thousands of tumbler tabs it's made the chore much easier. I've re-matched quite a few know with great results.

I dont do it for a living, it's just fun!

Thanks for the offer! Down without keys is the least on my long list.

I'm going to do the handles myself for the fun factor, but, I'll take you up on the ignition...

So, whats the scoop on the glove box lock with the Valet key? Same as with the handles? I've never had both types of keys in my hands before so I don't yet know the difference.
