Thread: Does anyone else get 'black leg syndrome' when setting gap/timing?

  1. #1

Does anyone else get 'black leg syndrome' when setting gap/timing?

Had to do a roadside points gapping a couple weeks ago (the matchbook thing really does work!) and followed up with timing light and correct feelers once home.

So fire the car up and take it to 6k to check timing and i get 31deg....good enough i say. not really anxious to push it to the limit during the summer when it can be so hot.

Then i'm putting tools back and notice that like an idiot i AGAIN forgot not to stand directly in line with the exhaust pipes. Looked like i had frostbite in a big circle on my shin. Black as night and took a while to clean off.

    Am i the only one?

I get no discernable popping or spitting so i'm inclined to leave things alone.

I get the same marks. It is part of the 911 experience.

In the PNW, we call that a "Higgins".

Just don't wear a tie when you are making adjustments (being a bean-counter and all). I don't need to explain why.

Anyone here whose tie got into the fan?

I don't wear them but unforeseen little road adjustments just happen when I have a good dress on. Seems Murphy's law!

    Enjoy the early 911

I've had my jacket and sleeves start to get sucked in once or twice, but I managed to catch 'em before it got out of hand. No damage to me or the car.

If your tie got wound up in the drive pulley you wouldn't be responding to this thread.
