    Throttle Linkage

    Here's another!
I have been preparing to install my rebuilt/cleaned carbs and had one more throttle linkage item. I wanted to put a new boot on this section. So what is the deal with this link? Why the special link? I used the existing link, it seemed ok for now, although this is someones repair. Now that I have the pics, I think I am seeing a fuel line needing attention...oh boy.

there's a new style of coupler that's worth replacing the old style - I just replaced fuel lines and the coupler gave way during this work - it was the original version - 36 years old so it had had a good run but I'm one lucky guy. If the old style gives way you loose all connection to the throttle - with the new version you at least can get some throttle.....

your coupler has had some work for sure ....

The "old" factory coupler consisted of two metal washers separated by a rubber piece. The problem was, if the car hit a real bad pothole, the rubber could shear, leaving you stranded.

The revised factory part consists of the same assembly encapsulated inside a steel barrel that wraps around both ends and encapsulates the washers-- you still get the rubber to dampen engine vibrations from going to the gas pedal, but if the rubber shears the steel barrel holds the washers and you can get the car home.

Yours looks like somebody brazed the old washers onto a piece of metal in an effort to do the same thing. You can replace it with the new coupler easily.
