    Hand Brake Switch - light

Does anyone have any pearls of wisdom to adjust the handbreak switch. My light is comming on when the level is all the wy down. Looks like I am getting a ground, adn I am willing to bet there is a way to adjust this thing. When I looked at the mechanism, not clear and easy solutions presented themselves to me.

    thanks -- rr

    Hand Brake Switch - light

Pull up the handbrake boot, look on the passenger side of the handbrake lever housing, towards the rear of the car you'll see a single slotted screw, when loosened that will adjust the switch up and down. It grounds against a riveted on copper ground strip up inside the handle.

I had a similar poblem with my light.

It turned out it was a defective switch on my master cylinder which I diagnosed by disconnecting the connector from the switch. Once I did that, the light began to operate as expected (hand brake up, light flashes, hand bake down, no light). I replaced the switch on the master cylinder and all is well again.

One clarification. I removed the electrical connector from the switch on the Master cylinder, no the handbrake switch.

Ed, Thanks but you probably have forgotten more than I will ever know on these things.

Ok time to close this out. Went for the drive yesterday and the light stayed out. By adjusting the slotted screw, I now have 3 clicks before the brake light switch engages. For me, I did not have to go to the master cylinder connection. Again, thanks for the help. I can enjoy myself again and not have to curse a yellow light anymore...
