Question What do you guys think this car is worth?

This car is what I am looking for, for many reasons:

    http://pca.org/Default.aspx?tabid=46...3399&parentId=

I would love to buy it but I think it is WAY over priced.
It was on Ebay about a month ago with a $25,000 starting price and no bids.
I am really itching to get an older car but when I think of all the work this car needs...
Am I wrong? What do you guys think it is worth?
    Thanks in advance, Rich

Hard to say what it's worth, but someone spent serious money for that motor, I'd say. You have to pay someone to check out a hot rod car, like this. It's not possible to state value accurately without a careful look at the work done on this car, IMHO.

I couldn't read the ad, but based on the pictures, the car is very rough and needs allot of work to at least clean it up. looks like there may be some hidden rust. There doesn't appear top be any part of the car that doesn't need work i would say less than $15k, unless its a real RS or that is a real RSR motor, which i doubt.

It's specs are: • 3.2 litre twin-plug engine with Mahle pistons and cylinders and sodium-filled 911 turbo valves. • 72/73 915 7:31 gear box with stock gears - no limited slip • New 46 mm PMO carburetors • Bosch twin plug distributor – Andial conversion • Bosch CD boxes • New Bosch coils and distributor cap • SC sway–bars • Aluminum trailing arms • Rebuilt ATE calipers with new rotors • SC radiator-style oil cooler in right front fender • Reconditioned Porsche gas tank • New Porsche master cylinders • Special light Swiss stainless steel muffler and SST heat exchangers • Short shifter installed with Momo leather steering wheel • Body is all OEM Porsche with new (1991) fenders, quarters, windshield, headlights, H4 front and rear lights, including factory ‘S’ front spoiler. •The engine in this car is not a 3.2 Motronic Carrera motor, but rather a custom-built engine based on a 3-litre SC case with 98mm high compression Mahle pistons on a 70.4mm stroke. It has injection S-cams.

So it's a T with a hot rod motor. Painted 18 years ago from original gold to white. Smaller market looking for hot rods. Perhaps its worth $25k or $33k to someone, but I would say that sub $20k would be more reasonable. Its still half done, and work is needed on the paint, trim, repair some bubbling, whats under surface even after 20 years garaged in Canada.

Depends upon your budget, and what you want, but there are some great S's in $40's such as 72S targa on sale here. There was a lovely silver 73E that was offered recently at mid $30's and needed nothing. I am sure there are other cars out there for $25k or $33k. I also figured it cost the guy a pretty penny to build the engine he had built. Depends upon receipts and who built it as well, I am sure.

it surely cost the guy $20k for the motor, tho he may have sold whatever was in it before

doubt he'd sell for less than that

    Thanks for the info guys.
I thought $20,000 would be the most it should go for (any more than that and cars that are done become a much better buy even at much more money) but I do not know much about the motor. (what I mean is I am not knowledgeable about the stuff that was done)
The guy has only had the car for 9 months, I will try to get paperwork on the motor work.
About how much horsepower would it have and would it be very radical (not dependable).
I would add to what I would pay if the motor would work into my plans but would hate to pay more and then have a catastrophic engine failure.

Another way to look at this might be to ask yourself what a solid T would cost you. Then ask yourself what it would cost to put all that stuff, suspension, engine, factory flares etc. into it. Looks like an awesome DE weapon to me.
